Eating & Drinking in Freshford

The Inn at Freshford is a 16th century timber-beamed village inn with open fires and a beer garden. The cyclists, walkers and runners doing the Two Valleys Walk use it to rest whatever part of them is aching, chaffing or on fire. It has ale from the Box Steam Brewery, its sister company, and does a mean Sunday roast. Food is locally-sourced where possible, and is reasonably adventurous for somewhere with its roots planted firmly in the English pub tradition.

The crowd in The Galleries Café and Shop (the community-owned and volunteer-run village shop) seems slightly too big for a village of the size of Freshford. That’s because other local villages don’t have a shop or café, and they flock to the joint. It’s eco-friendly and fairtrade, and has an in-store bakery to boot. It is also a post office. They’ve even made a documentary about it:
