Devonshire Lodge has been in the ownership of the same family for more than 50 years. It has been a much-loved family home, but the house is now ready for its next phase of evolution.

Entering the house via the front door, you are struck by the fine entrance hall with delightful cornicing. To your right hand side is the double aspect drawing room with views over the gardens and beyond. There is marble corbel fireplace, period shutters and a good range of bookshelves.

On the other side of the hall is a good sized kitchen/breakfast room, large enough to dine in. There is a comprehensive range of cream country style units with timber worktops, a Mercury oven and plumbing for a dishwasher. The kitchen opens through to a useful, spacious pantry/store room and also to a delightful sun room with large arched windows from which to enjoy the views over the gardens and beyond.

Leading upstairs, a charming dining room is located on the half landing, again with super views and plenty of light from the bay window.

On the first floor are two very good sized double bedrooms, both with period fireplaces and a further single bedroom. On the next half landing is the generous family bathroom with fitted cupboards, one being an airing cupboard. On the top floor is an excellent fourth bedroom situated in the eaves, making it great for children.

The ground floor leads down to a fine second hall with back door to the garden and a cloakroom. This in turn leads down to the lower ground floor providing a laundry room, good sized double bedroom and a large workshop which could easily be converted to provide more accommodation (subject to necessary consents being granted). There is an additional store room with original wine bins and a further long store room which can also be accessed via a door from the front driveway. This allows the lower ground floor to have independent access from the front of the house.

Externally

The front of the property is flagstone paved with off-street parking for one or two cars and various plants including a wonderful old bay tree. Steps lead up to a particularly beautiful front door flanked with pilasters and decorated with various motifs and a lion’s head door knocker.

The back gardens are simply superb. Just off the back door is a terrace which leads to a side gate on one side and round under the sun room where there is an open undercroft, ideal for storing garden furniture.

There are pathways leading down both sides with two main lawned areas. Espalier plum, cherry and pear trees are planted along the west facing wall. Central steps lead elegantly down to the lower lawned area. Beds are extremely well-stocked with a number of perennial and herbaceous plants; currently there is a delightful display of hellebores and snow drops. At the end of this section there is a gate that goes through to a substantial and well-loved vegetable patch with a variety of raised beds, cold frames and composting bins.
